Stop Unlicensed Contractors

They are wanted for:

  • Defrauding Homeowners and Consumers

  • "Underground" Cash Payments

  • Tax Evasion and Employment Violations

  • Abandonment of Work and Poor Workmanship

  • Violation of Building Codes and Permit Rules

The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) and concerned construction industry organizations are working together to catch unlicensed, illegal contractors and end the damage they are inflicting on homeowners, the industry, and the state and local economies.

Unlicensed Contractors Hurt Everyone

How you can help.

If you know an unlicensed contractor working in your area, call the nearest CSLB office listed. CSLB has developed specially trained teams - Underground Economy Enforcement Units (UEEUs) - to find and prosecute unlicensed contractors throughout the state.

The Best 'Lead': If you know when an unlicensed contractor will work on a particular project or in a specific area in advance, notifying the UEEU staff will allow them to catch the unlicensed contractor in the act.

PLEASE REPORT THESE QUICKLY! to 916-255-2924.

Note: Due to limited resources, CSLB is not currently able to investigate every submitted report of the unlicensed contracting activity (i.e., illegal advertising, reports of unlicensed contractors in the area, but helpful specifics are available, etc.)

However, this can be helpful information for planning stings and sweeps and may be retained in the UEEU files for later reference and action.
